May's almost over

Well I've almost made it all the way through May! Yay!

We're signing our lease on the 1st of June and I'm getting quite excited. Our plan is to be moved into our new place by June 17th. That gives us until the 30th to get everything in the old apartment cleaned and ready for inspection. Our goal is to receive 100% of the damage deposit back. This would help a lot because for the moth of June we have to pay 2 lots of rent; 1 for the new place and one for the old place. We also have 2 power bills.... YIKES!

But other than that it'll be ok. We also need a few "new" things... Since we have a second bed room/ official computer room we need to do either of two things; get another bed or move the futon into that room and buy a couch for the living room. I believe that the latter will win... We've found a very nice couch with a matching rocker for $225 at a used furniture place. We just need to acquire and move it into our new place. Hopefully it's still there Saturday when we have time to go get it.

We found some great deals on a tv/internet/home phone package too... for the first 6 months $87.00 tax in! and that includes $0.05/min long distance, call waiting, call display, voice messaging, 76 tv channels, digital music, 2 PPV movies (free! only the first 2 months though... for a grand total of 4), and I think that's it. Right now we pay $119.00 for tv/internet and another $30.00 for phone. So we're saving a bundle! Even after the first year it's $130.00/month for all 3 so that's a savings of $20.00 still! It's so great because rent in our new place is only $30.00 more a month which means moving to a bigger apartment only costs us an extra $10/month.... not too many people can say that's their moving experience (unless they downsized!).

IN NON-MOVING NEWS...

I had today off so I got my hair trimmed... no colour or anything fancy but she did dry it with a diffuser and well it looks different but I think I like it! (I'll post a pic when I take some lol)

Blah Kinda Day

Well I woke up to a drip, drip, drip... when I investigated the hot water tank in the apartment above ours had busted and the water was dripping from the light fixture in the ceiling. Yup, good morning sunshine!

So I got dressed, washed clothes, I need to wash dishes, and make lunch...

I'm also working from 3:30-11pm so it's a great Friday

I'm off tomorrow so maybe that'll go better...

OH and yesterday Andrew and I were supposed to sign the lease for our new place BUT they wanted $178 extra for signing before June 1st.... we've already paid them a holding deposit that will become a damage deposit. So I quickly changed our signing date and that was that... this is all seeming so drawn out... I wish I could just move and get it over with!!!

May 24 weekend

I don't think the US celebrates this holiday but we do (It's Queen Victoria's birthday). Well It was a great time! My Dad and Sister came in from Labrador for a week. They went to my Grampy's house on Friday and Andrew and I went out there for a BBQ on Saturday (It's about 2.5 hours away from here).

My Dad and Krystal went back yesterday and it was sad that they left but it's nice to have the place to ourselves for a while. Andrew and I have had family visiting now for about 3 months off and on!!!

Monday was the actual May 24 ceremony at Signal Hill. I took some pictures and some video (but I don't know how to get the video up here lol). I'll post some pictures below. After the 21 gun salute we ventured out to Cape Spear (It's the most easterly point in North America... the next piece of land is in Ireland!)

Movin, Movin, Movin!

Well Andrew and I are sick of the crap that has been happening in this building... the false accusations of us ruining the bathroom, our car being broken into and last but not least while Andrew's sister was visiting (for a surgery that couldn't be done home) they accused her of attempted arson (she was in the hospital at the time).

So, We're off to adventure into the world of basement apartments... we've found a really nice one and are waiting to hear if our application was accepted. That will be after 6pm today....

I'm excited about the whole moving process really... we'll have an extra bedroom, a bigger storage room and access to a shed, deck, and free laundry (well not really free but it's included in the rent). So no more coins!!! Also it's only $15 more a month (each that is) so it's a great deal.

The not so great part... it's 15 mins away from school and we're only 5 mins now but... we'll suck it up in the name of happiness!

Summer Slump

Well for me summer is here... I mean I don't have school until September and I'm working...

That being said I'm finding it difficult to post meaningful information... So I thought I'd share my summer dilemma.

My Dad WAS on strike and thus I decided to stay in St. John's with Andrew for the summer and look for work here. So, I found a job 40 hrs/week and $7/hr. Well I am delighted with my job and loving the spring here with Andrew.

Now, as I have posted before the strike is over and I have turned down a job at the mines for 16/hr (16.50 on night shift) and 92 hrs bi-weekly. Basically I turned down $5000 for the summer... Am I crazy?

Have I put a price on Love? I just hope I can afford school... but I'm sticking to my decision... no truck driving... I'm going to be a cashier in a gas station and... enjoy my summer here and make minimum wage like most other students....

Just curious, what's the minimum wage where you are?! What do students make? Is it difficult to get student loans?

Friendship Friday "What do you and your friends like to do with eachother?"

I'm cheating a little and postdating (well, predating really) this post for tomorrow... I have to work and I'm worried I won't get it done on time... so

My friends and I enjoy glo-bowling. It's a hoot and only $5.00 an hour per person with shoes... so you know a good night out is only $10-15. We don't go as often as I'd like to go but when we do we always wear clothes that glow under florescent lights.

I'm not a great bowler... in fact I often scratch a ball or two per turn. One time however there was a giant turkey on the screen when Andrew (whom is quite good despite lack of experience) was hurling his balls... we later found out it was because of the strikes he accumulated... 3 in a row is a turkey but we had a good laugh anyway!

I look forward to hearing what you all do with your friends!
