Book one down.... Mitch Albom's "The Five people you meet in heaven"

I finished the first book just a while ago for my summer reading challenge. It was a good read and a short one too at under 200 pages; if you are strapped for time it's exciting with not a lot of detail. The lack of detail was frustrating at times because it was hard to understand what was happening. But the ending was near perfect.

I recommend the story of "Eddie the maintenance guy" to just about anybody. I would think the story is appropriate for most children 10 years and older but you may want to read the war part for yourself first.

It is an interesting look at heaven and what really happens when you pass on.

Next book I'm reading is the 28 stories of AIDS in Africa.... I'm 11 pages in and captivated already... I think I might have more to say about that one than just a good read.

Canada Day... a few days late

We had a great Canada Day. I enjoyed my time off... Andrew and I went to the Confederation Building to see the things that the government had to offer and they were minimal... some stuff for small children and some older entertainers singing really old folk music... not really our cup-of-tea. So we decided to find out where the fireworks were going to be. Quiddi Viddi lake... and that is on the east end of St. John's... we live in the west end... it's easily a 30min drive. We found that and planned an "escape route."

We grabbed supper at Wendy's... and then we went mini-putting.... too much fun! We fed ducks and swans... that was also very fun... then we went down to the lake early. There was a great band playing and lots of food.... cotton candy, popcorn, moose burgers, sausage dogs, hot dogs, nachos, tatters, fries, and pizza! Then the fireworks started and they were great.

I had to work in the morning so we didn't stay out too late but it was an awesome time.
